words to eat by

Mark Bittman was on The Today Show awhile ago and he said something that I will never forget:

"No one's ever gotten fat from eating vegetables."

I have adopted this attitude as I fill my plate.  Little bit of meat, little bit of bread, and heaps of veggies.  Seconds on the main dish may come but first I make myself eat more vegetables.  I will finish the green beans.  I will snack off leftover salad.  I will eat the carrots off my children's plates.

I love to eat but I hate being fat.  And right now I'm really fat.  So while I try to lose weight by cutting back sugar, non-water beverages, and starches I will eat all the asparagus and broccoli that I want.  Thank you very much.

It sounds like a good plan - I should do it too!

Well I hate to break it to you, but when I saw you in Doug's wedding photos I said to Ben how beautiful you looked.... so there!

Great plan..weight loss is not about fad diets, cutting out carbs, or maple syrup fasts...its all about old school portion sizes, tons of fruits and veggies, and healthy exercise. I've been trying to take off this 10-15 lbs that I've gained since my wedding. I've been working so hard at doing hours of Jillian Michaels workouts, but the scale never budged. Now that I've been pregnant for 3 months, I haven't exercised and never thrown up...I've lost 6 lbs. WHAT? I've been eating less due to poor appetite and nausea..and low and behold, I can fit into pants I haven't been able to fit into for two years. Well! I guess I will enjoy this for another few weeks! LOL

Maybe I shouldn't tell you about the diet they talked about on "THE TALK" today. The Carb lovers Diet. The woman on the show (who wrote the book) says that in the first 7 days you will lose 6 pounds and you will lose 12 pounds in the first month. Eating Carbs. I don't know if that's true, but it got me listening.

I also agree with everyone else. You are beautiful, Bonnie.

I agree with Mia Jude, it's all about eating less. And veggies will definitely fill you up and help you eat less. We are big Mark Bittman fans over here. I think his advice is sound. Also I'd like to recommend a book for you, if you're up for it. It's called The Four Day Win by Martha Beck and it is helping me A LOT to get a handle on my emotional eating issues, etc. It's really good, in my opinion. Maybe you could get it from the library. xoxo

sugar snap peas are an excellent crunchy snack!

Add a bit of salt and they're even yummier. Beans are another good way to go for a protein/fiber packed snack that fills without the fat/calories. (This from a lady that had apple crisp for lunch...hmmm, perhaps I should take my own advice!)

I thought I commented on this... anyways was going to say a good snack is shelled edamame... takes awhile to eat them and they're so good for you...
