movies to watch

With a new baby we watch a lot of movies.  I thought I'd give you a quick list and simple review of the things I've watched recently that have been good enough for a recommendation.

Netflix watch instantly:
True Grit:  This is the new one which I've watched this over and over again.  Love it.
Thor:  You should especially watch this if you've seen or plan on seeing The Avengers.  Parts that did not take place on Earth were a little more boring but I liked the rest.
Being Elmo:  This was really interesting and very, very sweet.  I have a whole new appreciation for Elmo, which is nice because that puppet can drive me crazy sometimes.
The Conspirator: Based on actual events surrounding Abraham Lincoln's assassination.  I thought the acting, costumes, and story were all good.
The Way: I thought it was a great representation of Catholicism and the people who practice it, each with our own little history, sin, and burden, all looking for forgiveness and peace.

Rented:
Machine Gun Preacher: The beginning was really tough for me to watch, as were various scenes of violence, but an amazing story overall.
Morning Glory: Cute, funny, light-hearted.  Even Travis liked this chick flick.
Captain America: Thought I wouldn't like it but loved it.  Another must if you're going to watch The Avengers.
Safe House: Didn't think I'd like it one bit because of the violence.  I was wrong.  Also, I totally prefer Ryan Reynolds to Ryan Gosling. Any day.

What about you?  Do you have any movies to suggest?

Hmmmm, no recommendations off the top of my head. Except Avatar. It's awesome. :) Not a movie, though. I have been re-watching Inspector Lewis mysteries, which I think you can stream on Netflix. And I just started Felicity. Not sure how far I'll get... I LOVED Being Elmo. Totally inspiring. I love people who have a vision of what they want to do in life and then go out and get it. So awesome. I also loved True Grit. We saw it in the theater and when we came out I was really pissed to see that only the men were on the poster, when the girl was CLEARLY the star of the movie. Nate told me it was basic marketing, since she was an unknown actress and the men were stars. I maintain that it was totally unfair and sexist. LOL.

I don't know if maybe I'm missing something: but I've watched Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers and was bored by all of them. In fact, we were halfway through Avengers and I turned to Nathan and said "I don't have to see Avengers 2, do I?"

I just can't get in to the super hero movies.

LB, I love your "CLEARLY". But she was the star, hands down, which is saying something because there's a lot of talent in that movie. Go back and watch John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn and it's almost painful.

Also, Margaret, it took me a little while to get into Captain America and Thor (although the actor who plays Thor was cute so it wasn't too hard to look at him) but once invested I was in. The Avengers was one of my favorite movie theatre experiences because it was opening night, full theater, and people laughed, clapped, cheered, and just really, really enjoyed the movie. That always makes enjoying movies easier, me thinks!

And so what do you recommend?!

Ryan reynolds for sure. Have you seen Green Lantern Bonnie? That's a good one!

But I do second that Crazy Stupid Love was very good!

Oh Bonnie, my tastes are all over the place, but here are a few I've enjoyed recently:

Crazy Stupid Love (with Ryan Gosling...whoooo is a little better than the other Ryan, in my opinion :)

The Vow

Midnight in Paris (a Woody Allen film...very interesting)

Water for Elephants (although I hear the book is better)

Marley and Me (loved it and I'm not even a dog person)

I was going to also recommend Midnight in Paris. I really liked it.

Loved True Grit. But I could not get into Thor. I stopped watching after 10 min (but I usually like superhero movies; have yet to see Avengers)

I am embarrassed to admit this, but We Bought a Zoo exceeded my expectations. I love Matt Damon, but with a title like that, my expectations were about as low as they could get. But, I actually liked it.

Have you seen Once? Great soundtrack!
