This August and September my mom has been teaching me how to can. My mom taught herself how to do this, just like she taught herself to cook, bake, sew and do other domestic things that I never would have taken the time to learn to do if it weren't for her showing me as I grew up.
Mom and I spent several Saturdays snapping peas, boiling fruit, heating water and sanitizing jars. It was a lot of work and I was tired at the end of the day, but it's so great having food that I made. It's pure and clean and natural and super yummy. I will be doing this again, though next year I think I'm going to recruit some more help. Grandma Joan, wanna help? :)

I want to learn how to can sooo bad. Really, if someone invited me to a "harvest day" party and it included lessons on canning, I would be there in a heartbeat. The menfolk could hang outside and stoke a bonfire and/or bbq while those that want to can chat happily and industriously in the kitchen. Just an idea for next year's canning session....
Count me in, too...One day when I live in an actual house with a yard and a garden, I want to grow & can my own stuff.
Yummy! I love fresh canned food...I especially love raspberry jam. I also remember having the grape juice at your house when you had the little get together in honor of Sr. Marie Noelle...good times and great memories. Your hard work definitely pays off :)
wow, i am so impressed with you right now! it will feel so good to pull those jars off the shelf during the winter months.
by the way...I have been meaning to send you a card. We ate your gift of canned green beans and they were delicious! Thank you so much. =)
